Zeke Zimbler Memorial Hippotherapy Scholarship Fund

In 1982, shortly after he founded The Genesis Foundation for Children, Dr. Murray Feingold established what was then known as the National Birth Defects Center. Dr. Feingold was determined to bring the very best doctors to his center to ensure that patients received top notch care. One of the first brought on board was Dr. Seymour “Zeke” Zimbler, a pediatric orthopedist who shared Dr. Feingold’s dedication to providing compassionate care to children with complex medical needs. Dr. Zimbler would remain affiliated with the center until his retirement in 2014.

Dr. Zimbler, who passed away February 14, 2021, was the epitome of a teaching physician. Named Massachusetts Orthopedic Association’s Orthopedist of the Year in May 2012, he loved to educate students and residents. His gentle demeanor made all feel comfortable to ask and learn. Upon his passing, Dr. Zimbler’s colleagues recalled how much his patients and their families loved their visits with him because he took the time to answer any and all of their questions, and explain what were often very complex medical treatments in a way that put the families at ease.

Like Dr. Feingold, Dr. Zimbler considered his work to be an integral part of his identity. His wife, Enid, said “Zeke and Murray had similar philosophies.  They were both intent on doing their best for these children and making life as good as possible for both children and their families.”

To commemorate Dr. Zimbler’s exceptional service to his patients and their families, The Genesis Foundation for Children has established the Zeke Zimbler Memorial Hippotherapy Scholarship Fund, which will allow special needs children to participate in equine therapy. Dr. Zimbler always recognized this form of therapy as vitally important and beneficial in helping children with complex medical needs  enhance their development and achieve their full potential. May his legacy live on through this scholarship and the children it serves.
